THE RETURN OF RUBEN BLADES REVIEWED

“Return of Ruben Blades” is a loving music documentary seemingly cut for TV. Mugge has a sharp command of his subjects, but is willing to step back and let them talk. As a kid, I was familiar with Blades from his acting work. It wasn’t until the lead-up to “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” that I realized he had a prolific music career. While his musical stylings aren’t my cup of tea, it’s amazing to see the impact that he had on the International scene. While this documentary concerns itself with his Hispanic Music Market breakthrough in America, the results are still fascinating. I’d recommend a purchase for documentary nerds.
