MR. MOM: COLLECTOR’S EDITION REVIEWED
“Mr. Mom” comes to Blu-ray with the Collector’s Edition it deserves. It seems like one of the best John Hughes scripted movies (directed by Stan Dragoti) was destined to pan & scan transfers and miserable encodes. What Shout does here is give a beloved comedy classic the shot it deserves. Is there a ton to make pop in HD? Not really. Dragoti shoots the movie like a TV movie pilot for a comedy series. Which is weird because a TV series eventually developed from the film.
Honestly, these are the releases that make me love Shout. Scream can deep dive on the horror titles, but people keep overlooking the vault classics for the comedy titles. Comedy fans are as plentiful as those that will argue about Italian vs. Greek horror. It’s just that we’re looking for mistreated rarities that rarely escape the standard definition domain. Due to his comeback, I expected to hear nothing from Michael Keaton. But, what about Teri Garr? I know that she wasn’t doing well for a bit, but she’s an amazing actress with a ton of fans. Oh well, it’s still worth a purchase.
