Late Bloomers follows Louise (Karen Gillan), a 28-year-old Brooklynite who is navigating the challenges of life and identity as a musician. Recently single and struggling with underlying depression, Louise’s life takes an unexpected turn when a drunken mishap leaves her with a broken hip. Her recovery leads her to a physical therapy ward filled with patients twice her age.
In this ward, she meets Antonina (Margaret Sophie Stein), a cantankerous elderly Polish woman who speaks no English. Louise reluctantly becomes Antonina’s caregiver, a role neither is eager to embrace. As they navigate their begrudging relationship, both women confront the harsh realities of aging and self-discovery, pushing Louise to reflect on her own journey into adulthood.
