GLADIATOR (4K UHD)

GLADIATOR 4K UHD REVIEWED

“Gladiator” is 3 for 3 in the Paramount is killing it with older cinema on 4K. I feel dirty calling a movie old that I watched in theaters as a college student. Yet, here we are. The film looks as close as to theatrical as possible in the home theater arena. While it’s always one of Paramount/Dreamworks’ premiere outings on home video, the film simply kills in 4K.  But, why should you care leading into this Memorial Day Holiday Weekend/Buying Fiesta?

Well, it’s not pushy on the Atmos side. That means you won’t have to get crazy on the audio front. The focus on the visuals and it plays in a way that evokes the best of Old School production and the emerging CG scene. Whether it’s Maximus’ half-dead visions of the afterlife, the Coliseum battles or the direct drama, every scene pops with a signature color that stuns on 4K. It’s been awhile since the movie was in the mainstream landscape, so give it a revisit.

You’re going to be stunned to see how amazing Joaquin Phoenix was from the start. Pick it up and kill some time this weekend.
