“Every Secret Thing” is about two 11 year old girls who get sentenced for murdering an infant. They’re released when they turn 18, but another baby has turned up dead. Elizabeth Banks plays the detective determined to bring them down, but will it be enough? The film is supposedly faithful to the source novel, but I never read it.
What I do have to say is that Fanning fails in this movie. She’s been an incredible actress for her entire life and this is the first movie where she fizzles. It’s not the fault of the script or direction, it just feels like Fanning was either miscast or didn’t get the story. The adult leads overpower her and her criminal conspirators blows her off the screen.
The DVD comes with deleted scenes as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for standard definition. The Dolby 5.1 is supportive of dialogue and ambient noise. Still, I wouldn’t call it majorly impressive. In the end, I’d recommend a rental or stream.
