DESTROYER / EDGE OF SANITY REVIEWED
“Destroyer” is one of those films that everyone should see if they enjoy cult horror. Scratching that period itch that allowed NFL stars to headline horror films, while aging horror actors provided relevance made something fun. Sure, it feels like an early precursor to “Shocker”, but who cares? Clayton Rohner fights with Lyle Alzado in a prison. Throw in the chick from Valley Girl to fulfill the proper level of cheese.
“Edge of Sanity” is a weird attempt to tie Jack the Ripper into the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story. The end result is poor makeup and facial contorting pushing Perkins back into that Psycho IV TV movie. While it’s a solid B movie, one must watch it just to see Perkins go so killer and weird. Sadly, that doesn’t make for a solid film. Give it a shot and see what trying to escape typecasting does to a person.
