THE PLOT THUS FAR
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Coming Back with Wes Moore” tackles a very noble cause. However, each of the three hours feels like a bare skimp over serious matters. If anything, I hope that this material gets people to start thinking about how hard it is to get our veterans to return to society. People either want to treat them like fragile creatures or people who should be able to adapt and return. We need to take the time how the military complex breaks these people down, so that they can kill on command. That mentality doesn’t translate so easy into returning to a Home Depot job.
I appreciate the three part breakdown into investigating the veterans’ struggle to return to Civilization. Wes Moore was a veteran and his commitment to the material shows in every aspect of the documentary. It’s just that I don’t see a strong direction being presented. It’s more of a chance to scream at the mainstream that these people deserve respect and serious attention. I hate watching programs were people demand respect for truths with an empty stance and the subtle nature of Stanley Kramer on his deathbed.
The DVD comes with no special features. But, it’s typical for PBS documentaries. The A/V Quality is on par with most past releases. But, that’s not like it was something that would blow out your home theater. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
