Comics
The Vision
The Vision is such a simple concept, yet such an amazing book that it should make every working writer angry.
Saga
Brian K. Vaughn continues to show why he is one of the modern masters. I’m highlighting the first omnibus this year because I’m still shocked by how many people haven’t picked up the series. Do it now!
Sex Criminals
Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky have created one of the best comics available. Suzie’s just a regular gal with an irregular gift: when she has sex, she stops time. One day she meets Jon and it turns out he has the same ability. And sooner or later they get around to using their gifts to do what we’d ALL do: rob a couple banks.
Darth Vader
While the Darth Vader series concluded this year, it proved to be the superior new Marvel comic.
One of the greatest antagonists in all of fiction stars in his first volume of villainy! Fresh from a stinging defeat at the hands of the Rebel Alliance, Darth Vader must rise again to reassert the Empire’s iron grip on the galaxy. But will his personal desire for vengeance against the young Jedi who destroyed the Death Star distract from Vader’s duty to the Emperor? As a fateful quest begins, the Dark Lord of the Sith will face a fresh threat to his power. And as other villains old and new play their parts-from Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt to diabolical debutant Aphra, as well as the killer droids Triple Zero and BeeTee-how long until Vader’s dangerous alliances blow up in his face? Join Darth Vader and feel the power of the dark side!
Future Quest / The Flintstones
Who would’ve known that the Hanna Barbara relaunch books would be so amazing?
