Marceline is the greatest.
“Stakes” opens on Marceline the Vampire Queen wanting to be cured of vampirism. Knowing that means she will age, Marceline agrees as she’s tired of the limitations of being undead. But, can she put off the transformation as vampires now seem to be stalking Ooo? Who cares, as long as Rebecca Sugar keeps dropping these sweet musical jams on viewers. I could listen to Everything Stays forever.
Marceline the Vampire Queen remains one of my two favorites from this show. While they played down The Ice King to an extent, Marceline needed this mini-series to spotlight how she survived alone for so many years. Paul Williams and Ron Funches had great supporting turns as former Vampire lords. But, no one portrayed the right sense of evil for having turned the teenage girl. It’s a kid show, I get it.
The DVD comes with animatics, song demos and an art gallery as the special features. The A/V Quality is amazingly strong for standard definition. Still, I want to a see proper HD release when it inevitably hits Blu-Ray. The transfer pops and the Dolby 2.0 track helps the music and select action scenes. I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
