The official trailer has arrived for the upcoming thriller Leave the World Behind, based on the acclaimed novel by Rumaan Alam. Coming to Netflix on December 8 after select theatrical screenings, the film boasts a star-studded cast including Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke.
Leave the World Behind follows two families whose relaxing vacation gets upended when the homeowners mysteriously return bearing ominous news. Roberts and Hawke play the vacationing parents, while Ali and Myha’la star as the homeowners.
The clip teases the slow-burning suspense as the idyllic getaway takes a sinister turn. Writer-director Sam Esmail generates a creeping sense of dread reminiscent of classic ’70s thrillers.
Adapted from Rumaan Alam’s novel, the screenplay comes from the mind behind Mr. Robot, Sam Esmail. Along with Roberts, the film is also produced by Mahershala Ali and Chad Hamilton.
The impressive ensemble also includes Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans, and Kevin Bacon. The music comes courtesy of Emmy-winning Mr. Robot composer Mac Quayle.
