The Shining Hour was Joan Crawford’s plea to MGM to give her a serious role. It was a popular Broadway play about a New York modern woman marrying a rich farmer and heading back to Wisconsin. A love triangle breaks out and it’s not long before we get a fiery set piece thrown into the mix. Your great-grandparents would have loved it. Mine wouldn’t have, but that’s because they weren’t movie people.

Warner Archive has put together a rather well-built Blu-ray
There was a time in the DVD era when Warner Brothers would drop these massive DVD sets for classic films. Even things I never watched at that point and they were loaded with enough special features to attempt to recreate the original theatrical exhibition. You get that here with the Audio only MGM radio shows, cartoons and even trailers.
The A/V Quality is typical for a late 30s film having gone to Blu-ray for the first time. The 1080p transfer shows some signs of age, but I’m not sure if a restoration is warranted at this point. The DTS-HD 2.0 mono track is pretty on point. I’d recommend it to classic film fans.
