SSSSSSS REVIEWED
“SSSSSSS” is a small town melodrama by way of a creature feature. Dirk Benedict plays one of the best 70s film rubes, as he tries to make time with a snake expert’s daughter. The expert just wants to change Benedict’s DNA and turn him into a man-sized snake. The special effects are questionable now, but I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like to see upon initial release. Keep an eye out for future Captain America star Reb Brown as a supporting local.
The film is remembered by film fans for being the first Zanuck/Brown team-up. But, that’s movie minutia. What matters is that Face from the A-Team turns into a snake man in order to impress Spencer for Hire’s wife. If you can’t appreciate the oddity of that situation and how this isn’t an AIP film, then I don’t know what to tell you. Odd horror remains the best and Scream Factory should keep raiding these underseen Universal gems.
