SHARKANSAS WOMEN’S PRISON MASSACRE REVIEWED
“Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre” offers up Corman style goodness with Wynorski’s panache for boobs. Dominique Swain is quite the lead of a chain gang having to fight a monster awoken by Ozark fracking. Traci Lords has some supporting work, but this is Swain’s movie. Prehistoric sharks take a backseat to Swain’s ability to evoke the best AIP sensibilities from the Drive-In circuit. This film is the perfect answer to the Sharknado hipster hype train.
Keeping the focus on a few settings, making the sharks intimidating and then having you guess who’s going to die next is fun. The film clocks in at less than 90 minutes, which is perfect. This is the kind of fun romp that reminds us that Wynorski was the mastermind behind such classic fare as “Chopping Mall”. That being said, it still felt like the film could’ve been far more crass. Don’t hold back for modern audiences, guys. We can take it.
