I AM THALENTE

I AM THALENTE REVIEWED

“I am Thalente” follows Thalente Biyela from South Africa to America to follow his skating dream. So much of the film is a mix between standard sports documentary and skating reel. While I’m not terribly familiar with Thalente, I admire the hell out of his style. Think of it as a slightly more open legged Lasek with a pinch of Mullen for finesse. If it wasn’t for his past use of heroin and the length it took him to be discovered, we could have easily been seeing Thalente in skating video games.

For a guy whose first name means talent, I can’t think of a better moniker. While the tale of how he met Tony Hawk is interesting, it pales when compared to seeing the guy grind in action. Skating is one of those things that I used to be super into before I turned 18 and discovered other things. But, this documentary awakens the passion I had in those days. Please pick up this flick on VOD and support the hell out of it. This is the best skating documentary since “All This Mayhem”.
