ONCE UPON A TIME REVIEWED
“Once Upon a Time” is like Frozen with Eastern Gods and a ton of CG. The action works for a fantasy piece, but ultimately it’s a film that divorces itself from Western concerns. Having been a hit novel and TV series, this feels like a retread without having been familiar with the source material. So much of the narrative feels like a checklist for hitting fan service moments. It’s just that I find myself so divorced from what could play as fan service that the film might as well have been made in Esperanto.
