At the New York Toy Fair this weekend, NECA announced its acquisition of the license for Pee-wee’s Playhouse to launch a full line of figures and collectibles. The news fulfills a project that originated under the direction of late comedian Paul Reubens himself.
The iconic 80s series followed Pee-wee Herman in his colorful surreal world of talking furniture, peculiar inventions, and zany characters. NECA’s licensed Pee-wee’s Playhouse products will let fans nostalgically revisit the imaginative show.
At their Toy Fair booth, NECA revealed the first offerings from the Pee-wee’s Playhouse range:
- 6-inch stylized “Toony” action figures of Pee-wee and other characters
- High-end hand-painted Pee-wee and Chairry Head Knocker bobbleheads
The NECA family of brands showed more items like Kidrobot’s Pee-wee Phunny plush toys and vinyl mini figures. Joseph Enterprises will also launch Pee-wee’s Playhouse Chia Pets.
Many more products are slated to release from the license, including apparel and home goods. The full collection was originally conceived under Paul Reubens’ guidance before his passing.
For those who grew up watching Pee-wee’s Playhouse in the late 80s, the toys will be a nostalgic trip back to Saturday morning cartoons. The show introduced fans to Pee-wee’s motley crew of characters like smart-aleck puppet Pterri, living furniture Chairry and Clocky, and floating genie head Jambi.
With its zany humor, celebrity cameos, and DIY production design, Pee-wee’s Playhouse became a cultural touchstone. NECA’s figures will let collectors display favorites from the Playhouse cast on their shelves once again.
Stay tuned for more reveals from NECA’s Pee-wee’s Playhouse toy line. From Toonys to bobbleheads, plush, and more, fans will soon be able to revisit Pee-wee’s whimsical world.
