IZZY GETS THE FUCK ACROSS TOWN REVIEWED
“Izzy Gets The Fuck Across Town” is an interesting movie. Split into 10 perfect chapters, the film tells a mundane tale of a young woman trying to stop her ex-boyfriend’s engagement party. He is marrying one of her former friends, so a lot of this isn’t sitting right with Izzy. That’s why she has to steal transportation, run and find ways to dash across Los Angeles to stop this party. People will jump in her way to stop our hungover heroine. It’s just that if she won’t listen to Carrie Coon, then why would she listen to the random person on the street?
The lead character can be a bit annoying, but that is needed. When you undertake a journey like this, the audience should never be able to fully support the lead. They should spend what is a mindless journey by asking questions of the one taking the lead across town. Director Christian Papierniak knows how to shoot across Los Angeles, but the film times the journey in a way that breaks happen where they logically apply.
Road trip movies regardless of how long or short seem to be undone by the time lost on the trip. Izzy needs that time to realize what she’s doing and to try and rationalize what has become of her life. Whether she accomplishes that…I’ll leave that up to you.
