HELL UP IN HARLEM REVIEWED
“Hell Up in Harlem” is the forced follow-up to “Black Caesar”. When you consider that the first movie ended with Fred Williamson getting gunned down, they had to pull some “Crank” level shenanigans to make a sequel happen. Nope. Titular character Tommy Gibbs just got better. Was it explained how he survived that many gun shots? Not really.
The movie brings back a ton of key figures from the first film. The catch is that Tommy is having to deal with coming so close to death. The man changed, but he won’t abide by the mafia kidnapping his ex-wife. So, it’s a battle to bring the fight back to the Mafia and save his lady. People die, people find soul and the music remains choice.
