“The Affair” is part of the contained serial drama revival that I’m loving. Playing it closer to the vest than a “True Detective”, “The Affair” wants to tackle heavier issues. What does it mean when you give your heart to a stranger? How does being that vulnerable leave you to suffer? What happens if something goes terribly wrong?
Dominic West and Ruth Wilson blows the rest of the cast away, but it’s their story to carry. The show drags hard for casual viewers, but stick with it. There’s atmosphere and emotion to feel out and that might be hard for some. But, adult drama demands adult response. Question: Why can’t we get that anymore? Answer: because you’ve got earn it. Well, earn this.
The DVD comes with a featurette and tons of episodes for other Showtime shows as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for a serious drama. The standard definition is clear with minimal noise. Plus, the Dolby 5.1 track creates a sensible audio environment. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
