THE PLOT THUS FAR
The most recent of the Yankees dynasties was very special, displaying not only dominance, but incredible heroics. From pitching duels and walk-off home runs to one of the most shocking defensive plays you will ever see, these four legendary games are in one box set for the first time ever.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“New York Yankees’ Postseason Heroics” is the latest compilation disc from the MLB. The MLB seems hellbent on making the world believe that the last reign of Steinbrenner mattered. Most of these games seem to have been featured on MLB discs before, but I guess this is a release for the OCD collector Yankee fans. There are a ton of those types out there, but after awhile you run out of material. I understand the issue, as Boston fans spent nearly 20 years replaying the 1986 World Series game over and over and over again. Time is a cruel mistress.
All four games spotlights on this release might as well make it a Derek Jeter disc. Jeter is OK, but I wouldn’t call him amazing. He’s better than A-Rod, but A-Rod has gone out of his way to prove to the world that he’s a scumbag. So, I guess that Jeter survives the Karma train just by keeping his head down the longest? I’m not quite sure how that works, as I’ve lost my major love affair with baseball ages ago. Seriously, I was a monster fan of Ryne Sandberg and then I stopped caring. All of those years spent collecting baseball cards for nothing.
The DVD comes with Yankees radio audio as the only special feature. It’s a nice touch for fans to hear the original audio broadcasts. The transfer is workable. Plus, the Dolby track really kicks in with the baseball excitement. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
