“The Wrecking Crew” was made back in 2008, but it didn’t release wide until this Spring. Musical rights are a pain and there’s no way that you could exclude a single track from this film. I love that you open up the Blu-Ray and get a detailed listing of every song featured on the reverse side of the cover. The West Coast Sound come to life for everyone from Frank Sinatra to The Beach Boys to Elvis Presley. You know their work if you ever heard “Let’s Get It On”, “A Little Less Conversation” or the Hawaii Five-0 theme.
This time in rock history is my jam. Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn, Julius Wechter, Leon Russell, Billy Strange, Glen Campbell, Earl Palmer, Al Casey, Plas Johnson, Steve Douglas, Don Randi, Larry Knechtel, Don Peake, Bill Pitman, and Hal Blaine are the greatest session playing team in history. Watching as these Titans dominate at their peak and help to create such amazing music. The whole Sloop John B sequence is the stuff that legends are made out of and I just can’t even think about this as a documentary. It’s a creation of love about talent being forged into something greater than the sum of its parts. I can’t watch this film without feeling good. Now, I’ve got to go put on some records.
The Blu-Ray comes with deleted scenes, trailer and tons of bonus content as the special features. The A/V Quality is stunning. The 1080p transfer is flawless for a rock documentary. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track is stunning and it stands among the best of 2015. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
