“We Are Monster” isn’t a film like “Starred Up”, so get that out of your system right now. The Feltham Young Offenders Institute is a rough place that houses many trouble youth. A Middle Eastern kid is about to be released when he meets up with a local white thug. Hours later, the Middle Eastern kid would be beaten to death in his cell. This docudrama tries to explain away what happened.
While I’ve seen this kind of film before, I admire the take shown here. Keeping it up close and personal for the UK set allows a level of violence that we rarely get to see the Brits produce. Some of it might be implied, but it still bares heavy dramatic weight. Still, it’s not anything that demands a viewing. The DVD comes with a clean standard definition transfer and Dolby Surround mix.
