“The Toxic Avenger Part II” has had a weird release on Blu-Ray. Earlier in the Spring, the first release came out and the feature film wasn’t remastered. It was a 480i mess that looked like a bad DVD. Thankfully, Troma has gone back and fixed it with a recent release. How drastic were the changes? Well, we’re going to have a screenshot comparison to go along with our coverage.
Toxie returned in his late 80s sequel by fighting corporate crime and sailing to Japan. Shot alongside what would become Toxie 3, this was the kind of material that used to make up the backbone of USA Up All Night. I love Troma schlock in its prime, but don’t expect the first Toxie. Each visit to Tromaville takes on a new flavor. This one comes with a bit more Teriyaki.
The Blu-Ray comes with a truly remastered 1080p transfer that shows off its gritty roots. The new intro by Lloyd Kaufman is fun, as well as the trailers and featurettes that span the Toxie Saga. You also get a lossy Dolby 2.0 stereo track. If that wasn’t enough, you also get a Director’s commentary and a DVD copy. While there have been bumps in the road to Toxie 2, this is worth a purchase.
Release Date: OUT NOW!
