Toxie is tempted by the pleasures of being a Yuppie.
“The Toxic Avenger Part III” was the first Toxie film that I ever saw. Yeah, I was a kid that got into the show because of the “Toxic Crusaders” cartoon and this was the only VHS tape that was readily available at the local Mom & Pop store. Toxie is now married and facing the pressures of dealing with a blind wife. So, he takes a shot at working for Apocalypse Inc so he can afford surgery to fix his wife’s vision. What Toxie doesn’t know is that Apocalypse Inc is going to turn him into a yuppie.
The film works as a metaphor for the challenges that many American towns like Tromaville faced during the height of the Reagan/Bush years. But, Toxie pulls through and rejects the Satanic taint of corporate America. That is until Satan shows up and Toxie has to fight him as my preferred Christ figure. The Blu-Ray comes with the original theatrical cut in 1080p HD. However, the release also includes the Kaufman’s Director’s Cut on DVD. Plus, Lloyd Kaufman offers up an intro and two new audio commentaries. If you forgot that you’re dealing with Troma, well there’s nearly an hour of bonus material to remind you. God Bless Toxie, God Bless Troma, God Bless Everyone…that buys this Blu-Ray.
