The gripping drama The G is set to celebrate its world premiere at the upcoming Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival on November 11th. Starring acclaimed character actor Dale Dickey, The G offers a fierce portrait of an older woman fighting back against injustice.
Dickey plays Ann Hunter, nicknamed “The G,” who is forced into a shady nursing home with her husband by a crooked legal guardian. As she plans an escape, The G shows her true grit against a corrupt system.
The atmospheric thriller tackles issues of aging and elder abuse through the eyes of its indomitable lead character. Dickey’s performance anchors the “winter-noir” tone.
Emerging filmmaker Karl R. Hearne writes and directs The G, drawing inspiration from his own grandmother’s resilience. The cast also includes Romane Denis, Roc Lafortune, Bruce Ramsay, and Jonathan Koensgen.
Hearne wanted to craft an original portrait of an older woman rarely given such bold roles. He described it as “a revenge story against old age itself.”
After making rounds on the festival circuit, The G will hold its world premiere at Tallinn Black Nights in competition. The Estonian festival runs November 11-27 showcasing new international cinema.
The G’s premiere comes ahead of a full release in 2024 by Canadian distributor levelFILM. By centering a fierce, older protagonist, The G aims to challenge ageist preconceptions in the industry and society.
