The Cove and Racing Extinction comes to VOD on December 3rd

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution arm of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, is excited to announce the North American VOD release of two impactful environmental documentaries from director Louie Psihoyos: The Cove and Racing Extinction. Both films will be available for rent or purchase across all major North American digital HD platforms, including internet, cable, and satellite, starting December 3, 2024.

The Cove follows a team of activists, filmmakers, and freedivers as they expose a deadly secret in a remote Japanese cove. Led by Ric O’Barry, a renowned dolphin trainer turned activist, the team uses state-of-the-art equipment to infiltrate the cove near Taiji, Japan, uncovering shocking animal abuse and a hidden threat to human health. The documentary blends investigative journalism, eco-adventure, and stunning visuals to deliver a courageous and thought-provoking story that sparked widespread outrage and action. The Cove won the 2009 Academy Award® for Best Documentary and was produced by Fisher Stevens and Paula DuPré Pesman, with participation from Ric O’Barry, Hayden Panettiere, Isabel Lucas, and director Louie Psihoyos.

Racing Extinction takes viewers on a global journey with artists and activists who uncover the hidden world of endangered species and the race to protect them from human-induced extinction. The film uses high-tech tactics to infiltrate dangerous black markets and expose the connection between carbon emissions and species loss. Featuring breathtaking footage, Racing Extinction challenges the way we view the world and the environment. The film features prominent figures like Jane Goodall and Elon Musk, and was written by Mark Monroe and produced by Olivia Ahnemann and Fisher Stevens.
