Shudder Acquires Dario Argento Panico – A Documentary Tribute to the Italian Giallo Master

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service dedicated to horror, thrillers, and the supernatural, is thrilled to announce the acquisition of “Dario Argento Panico,” a captivating documentary by Simone Scafdi. This retrospective and personal portrait of the Italian giallo maestro, Dario Argento, will feature exclusive interviews with Argento himself and celebrated directors like Guillermo del Toro, Gaspar Noé, and Nicolas Winding Refn. The rights extend across the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with a Shudder release slated for February 2, 2024, following its World Premiere at the 2023 Venice Film Festival.

“Dario Argento Panico” offers a comprehensive journey through the life and legacy of Dario Argento, illuminating his profound impact on the horror genre and his enduring influence on cinema. The film captures Argento in the intimate setting of hotel rooms, where he crafted his most iconic works, returning to the very environment that sparked his creative genius.

Prior to its release on Shudder, the IFC Center in New York will host a theatrical retrospective of Argento’s films from January 31 to February 8. This event, titled “Panic Attacks: The Films of Dario Argento,” will include a sneak preview and the US premiere of “Dario Argento Panico,” alongside screenings of his classics such as “Suspiria,” “Inferno,” “Deep Red,” and “Tenebrae.”

Producer Giada Mazzoleni expressed pride in Shudder’s selection of the documentary, highlighting it as a celebration of Argento’s contributions to global cinema. Samuel Zimmerman, VP of Programming at Shudder, praised Argento’s groundbreaking work in horror and giallo, noting that “Panico” offers an intimate and revealing look at the legendary director, appealing to both longtime admirers and newcomers.

“Dario Argento Panico” is produced by Giada Mazzoleni and executive produced by Manlio Gomarasca. The deal for the film was negotiated by Mazzoleni and Zimmerman on behalf of Shudder.

Fans of horror and cinema history, mark your calendars for February 2, 2024, for the Shudder release of “Dario Argento Panico.”
