Peter Jesperson’s Journey
Peter Jesperson’s love for music began in his childhood and led him into the burgeoning Minneapolis music scene of the 1970s and ‘80s. He managed the influential Oar Folkjokeopus record store and DJed at Jay’s Longhorn bar, before co-founding Twin/Tone Records. The label launched iconic artists such as The Replacements, Soul Asylum, The Suburbs, Babes In Toyland, and The Jayhawks.
Jesperson’s career skyrocketed with the discovery of The Replacements, whom he managed and guided through their tumultuous rise. He also briefly road-managed R.E.M. during their early days. Despite his professional success, Jesperson faced personal struggles with substance abuse. However, his passion for music helped him rally, leading to a successful career phase in Los Angeles with New West Records, working with artists like Dwight Yoakam, Kris Kristofferson, Vic Chesnutt, and Steve Earle.
