“Gene Autry Collection 11” sports three OK movies and “Springtime in the Rockies”. It’s the best Western of 1937 that strikes an even mood between humor and serious action. Autry is a broad actor and his cowboy antics played well for people that didn’t dig Roy Rogers. I’ve heard a few Western scholars complain that he was a serial actor that played it too thin for features. Well, I’m not sure if that matters. Were the premises for the early Wayne work any better?
The DVD comes with trivia and various vintage tidbits as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for films of that age. I swear that a few of these are in the public domain, but I’m not terribly sure. The DVDs help to take care of the Autry Center, but I wish someome could step in and help cut HD releases. If you’re a fan, I’d recommend a purchase.
