What is Pomegranate?
Set during the 2016 U.S. presidential election season, POMEGRANATE follows the journey of Niran, a 20-year-old politically liberal Iraqi Muslim refugee living in Detroit’s “Little Baghdad”—a predominantly Christian Iraqi suburb.

- Niran, who sports fashionable hijabs and modern attire, struggles to balance her family’s traditional expectations with her own liberal ideals.
- Across the street, her nemesis Mary—a conservative Iraqi Christian with a “Make America Great Again” sign and a Virgin Mary statue—stands as a stark contrast.
- Inspired by Enheduanna, the first recorded writer and priestess of Ancient Mesopotamia, Niran fights cultural stereotypes and seeks to find her voice while navigating a maze of societal challenges.
POMEGRANATE marks a milestone as the first Iraqi-American narrative film led by a creative team from within the community it portrays
