Flesh and Bone makes ballet sexy.
“Flesh and Bone” is sexy ballet for the masses. Moira Walley-Beckett has created something here that is dark, but not exclusive for those that don’t follow ballet. Sarah Hay offers up something as the lead that doesn’t play like Black Swan or other ballet fare. Hay’s Claire is a recovering victim that wants to use her talents to make a better life. The competition stuff is rather standard, but that’s not where the show shines.
The show shines when we see the relationships between the ballet company members. Authority is frightening, as everyone is fighting to step over others to get that extra glimmer of spotlight. But much like that nagging pain in Claire’s foot, things have a way of throwing you off your game. Hopefully, we get a second season. The Blu-Ray comes with a featurette as its sole special feature.
