Eureka Entertainment is proud to announce the release of THE MAGNIFICENT CHANG CHEH on Blu-ray. Two films from the long and illustrious career of director Chang Cheh are part of the Eureka Classics range. The collection drops in North America on April 29, 2025. About the Magnificent Chang Cheh Collection
Chang Cheh, known as the “Godfather of Hong Kong Cinema,” helmed classics like Five Deadly Venoms, Chinatown Kid, and Boxer Rebellion. This set showcases his work at both ends of his career:
- The Magnificent Trio: A straight-faced wuxia film from the mid-1960s when martial arts films dominated the Hong Kong box office.
- Magnificent Wanderers: A kung fu comedy from the late 1970s, capturing the height of the kung fu craze.
Film Overviews
In The Magnificent Trio, an early role for Jimmy Wang Yu as swordsman Lu Fang sees him, along with warriors Yen Tzu-ching (Lo Lieh) and Huang Liang (Cheng Lui), lending martial arts prowess to a group of oppressed farmers who kidnap a magistrate’s daughter.
In Magnificent Wanderers, nomads Lin Shao You (Fu Sheng), Shi Da Yong (Chi Kuan-chun), and Guan Fei (Li Yi-min) join forces with wealthy Chu Tie Xia (David Chiang) to help Chinese patriots battle invading Mongol armies. These films highlight Chang Cheh’s range—from traditional wuxia to farcical kung fu comedy.
