THE PLOT THUS FAR
The show revolves around the adventures of Denver, the last dinosaur a Corythosaurus who was released from his egg by a group of multicultural modern California teens: Jeremy, Mario, Shades, Wally, and Casey, along with tag-along older sister, Heather. The kids taught Denver the finer points of skateboarding and other pastimes while protecting him from concert promoter Morton Fizzback who wanted to use the dinosaur to make money.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Denver: The Last Dinosaur” was a weekly series that premiered in 1988 and died by Thanksgiving that same year. A group of teens in California hatches the last dinosaur from an egg, then they teach him how to skateboard and play guitar. They jam out, but there’s a Reuben Kinkaid stand-in that wants to use Denver to make money. The kids spend the two seasons trying to hide Denver from these people, but hi-jinks are hi-jinks. The series plays out as a 5 episode a week that kept the central premise going. Keep Denver away from the evil adults and keep him jamming on that guitar!
What was it about dinosaurs from 1986-1993? America fell in love with dinosaurs returning to prominence and either being vicious or displaying characteristics like modern families. I can think of 10 fictional dinosaurs from that era that doesn’t include Denver. What about Dink and the Dinosaucers? I freaking love Dinosaucers. What does it mean? I was an elementary school to middle school aged kid at the time and I was slammed with marketing about the material that doomed me for life?
The DVD comes with interviews, image gallery and 7 bonus cartoons as the special features. The A/V Quality is what you would expect. The transfer is soft for a show that seems like it was animated on the cheap, but not Filmation cheap. The Dolby 2.0 track holds up well for its age. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the nostalgic.
