About The Babadook
The Babadook tells the haunting story of Amelia (played by Essie Davis), a grieving widow struggling to cope with the violent death of her husband. Six years after the tragedy, Amelia is overwhelmed by the challenges of raising her troubled and ‘out of control’ six-year-old son, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), whom she finds increasingly difficult to love. Samuel is tormented by terrifying dreams of a monstrous figure he believes is coming to kill them both. When a mysterious and eerie storybook titled ‘The Babadook’ appears in their home, Samuel becomes convinced that the creature from his nightmares is real. As Samuel’s behavior grows more erratic and violent, Amelia is forced to medicate him. However, as she begins to catch glimpses of a sinister presence lurking around her, Amelia realizes that the nightmare Samuel has been warning her about might be terrifyingly real.
About Jennifer Kent
Jennifer Kent is a highly acclaimed Australian writer and director who initially trained and worked as an actor before transitioning behind the camera. The Babadook premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014 and quickly became a critical and commercial success, earning over 100 nominations and awards globally. Kent’s sophomore feature, The Nightingale, won the Jury Prize and the Marcello Mastroianni Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2018, along with five Australian Academy (AACTA) Awards. Recently, Kent directed The Murmuring, an episode of the popular Netflix anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. She currently has three feature films and two television series in development.
