BONNIE & CLYDE REVIEWED
American Experience offers up yet another look at Bonnie & Clyde. What began as a romance between two fools in the slums would result in a crime spree that lasted two years. Much has been done to romanticize them, but I appreciate the documentary’s efforts to ground everything in reality. Most of the documentary is spent examining early media glamorizing criminal activity during the Depression. The material focuses on how an ex-con and a poor white trash girl were able to capture a nation’s attention, based on nothing. The subtext in the material is palpable, but we only get an hour to examine it.
