BLONDIE OF THE FOLLIES REVIEWED
“Blondie of the Follies” is a film notoriously known for being edited by William Randolph Hearst after the fact. Thrill to a Marion Davies movie where she pops up randomly and musical numbers seem to jump cut to focus on her. What could’ve been a showbiz drama turns into a mismatch of editing and coital desire to showcase Marion Davies. At least the audience gets a ton of time with Jimmy Durante. You’ll love seeing young Jimmy Durante.
Regarding the film, classic cinema fans have seen it before. There is no difference between this film, “42nd Street” or the other contemporary films of similar ilk. Young girl wants better in life and manipulates her resources to the rise to the top. It’s just that Davies possesses no obvious talent in this film. If you can look past that, then you’ve got a decent flick on your hands.
