Apple TV+ has revealed a first look at Government Cheese, a surrealist family comedy starring the multi-award-winning David Oyelowo, who also serves as an executive producer. The highly anticipated ten-episode series will premiere globally on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with the first four episodes, followed by one episode weekly every Wednesday through May 28, 2025. Joining Oyelowo in the ensemble cast are Simone Missick, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, and Evan Ellison. The series comes from creators Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr.
Set in 1969 San Fernando Valley, Government Cheese centers on the quirky Chambers family, who are chasing lofty, seemingly impossible dreams with no regard for the harsh realities of life. In his absence, his wife Astoria (Missick) and their two sons, Einstein (Ellison) and Harrison (Di’Allo Winston), have formed a new, unconventional family dynamic. Hampton’s return disrupts their world, spiraling the family into chaos.
The series also features an impressive supporting cast, including Bokeem Woodbine (“Fargo”), Jeremy Bobb (“The Continental”), Louis Cancelmi (“The Irishman”), Julien Heron (“Baskets”), Djilali Rez-Kallah (“My Hero”), Louis Ferreira (“Stargate Universe”), Thomas Beaudoin (“Hubert & Fanny”), Kyle Mac (“The Boys”), John Ortiz (“Bad Monkey”), and Adam Beach (“Smoke Signals”).
