OFFICER DOWNE 1

OFFICER DOWNE REVIEWED

“Officer Downe” is an adaptation of a Joe Casey/Chris Burnham graphic novel that I didn’t read. I’m a big fan of Joe Casey, as he’s written what I consider to be the definitive versions of Cable and WildC.A.T.S. in comic form. But, film is a collaborative medium. What started as a great idea on paper doesn’t always translate well to the screen. I’m looking at you, “The Human Stain”. But, how hard is it to make a film about a rough cop revived in a future world with dark science technology?

Slipknot member turned feature director Shawn Crahan handles the action with a clever hand. For 90 minutes, I could buy into a world that felt like Cinemax trying to make their version of a CW superhero show. The downer is that in 90 minutes, the pacing of the film was rushed to near Cannon Films levels. Character development didn’t have much time to appear onscreen. However, we do get to learn enough about Officer Downe to make him into an impressive authoritarian figure. If that sound your alley, then head out and pick this one up.
