WORLD WITHOUT END REVIEWED
“World Without End” features a bevy of Mars explorers getting thrown forward in time when returning to Earth. What sent these brave astronauts roughly 550 years into the future? The answer never satisfies, but while revisiting this film…I realized that it’s quite the oddity. The future mutates feature make-up that would better fit genre films of the late 1970s. Plus, the sexuality in the film just oozed in every frame. These survivors and the women they found wanted to do the coital shuffle.
If you haven’t seen this film before…don’t worry. This is the first disc release for the film, as it had been the fare of badly cropped VHS tapes shuffling around the Gray Market. Hell, this is my first time watching the film in its proper aspect ratio. While the film plays short, it uses every inch of the Cinema Scope framing to create a hellish nightmare of a future. Looking back at the time the film was released, it feels like timing was against it. Sure, it’s a great B-movie…but it had to tackle hard action Sci-Fi a few weeks after “Forbidden Planet” opened. Sometimes, life isn’t fair.
