WILLOW CREEK

THE PLOT THUS FAR

From celebrated Director Bobcat Goldthwait comes this edge of your seat horror that will make you think twice before going into the woods.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Willow Creek” is the “Blair Witch Project” with a sasquatch. There’s no other way of putting it. However, I feel that the director managed to play the build up to the hunt for Bigfoot much better than the original Blair Witch trio venturing into the woods of Maryland. What hurts this film is that you don’t love or hate the characters. Everyone is so bland that you can’t find yourself laughing or cheering anything they do. That is until they find something in the woods.

I’m not going to be bemoan the state of found footage movies, as I’m exhausted by now. That being said, I’ve covered 24 Found Footage movies since Memorial Day Weekend and I have to say that I don’t care if the footage ever gets found. While it adds a Brechtian break for people to clamor for in the new age of horror, it’s played out. Nothing about the intimate footage leans itself to creating a scarier atmosphere. If you want to play up interviews and weird locals to give your movie a creepy feeling, then look at “An American Werewolf in London”. They did it 33 years ago, they kept it to the opening and they did it better. I knew that Bobcat Goldthwait had a dud coming, but I didn’t think it was going to be this. I love the guy and his direction was improving greatly. Oh well, here’s to hoping that the next feature is better.

The Blu-Ray comes with commentary, deleted scene, making-of featurette and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong, even for an indie found footage movie. The 1080p transfer is dull, but crisp enough for detail. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track helps with the environmental scares. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
