WHEN BETTE MET MAE REVIEWED

“When Bette Met Mae” is a bizarre documentary recreation. Taken from original audio recorded in the early 1970s by a bartender, we get to see actors recreate the time that Bette Davis and Mae West first met. It’s interesting to hear what they discuss and get a sense of how they play off each other. But, it feels like an extended Drunk History recreation at times. I appreciate hearing the discussion on women in early American film history. It’s just that at times, I’m never sure if it was absolutely needed. Take that for what you will.
