THE PLOT THUS FAR

Puppetry, CG animation and live action combine to create fun, captivating musical adventures for children ages 1-5. The Wheels on the Bus brings to life the classic, beloved childrens song along with creative, new verses and several original songs written for this series.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“A Day at the Farm” is the latest release from “The Wheels on the Bus”. “The Wheels on the Bus” appears to be a live-action puppet show where Roger Daltrey was sentenced to spend the rest of his days. What’s nice is that this is the kind of material that I can show to my kid and it’ll entertain. However, I feel that age 5 might be aging out of the show based on what they recommend. Honestly, I can’t see any kindergartner sitting through this release for any length of time. It’s very little kid friendly, but it knows what its core audience belongs.

The show runs somewhere around 36 minutes in length. While that’s great for basic singing along and setups; there’s nothing else to it. I watch and cover a ton of kiddie releases and I’ll admit that most of them are padded to the point of being inane. Still, these releases function as media babysitters, as young parents do their best to try and regain their sanity. If you can’t even squeeze in a good housecleaning while this disc plays, then where is the value? I’d have to dig out my old DVD media changers and let a five disc selection play through to even make it worth my time to keep the kiddo entertained.

The DVD comes with no special features. The Dolby track provides no back channel support. That being said, the mix seems a bit flat. The transfer does the best it can with standard definition. In the end, I’d recommend to parents of young kids.
