Many movies are successful in the theatres but don’t have a lasting legacy away from the screen. These are three of the best franchises that are just as popular off screen as they are on the screen.
Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho was released in 1960 and stars Anthony Hopkins who plays Norman Bates, a motel owner who appears to live with his mother. He takes a liking for Marion Crone, who is played by Janet Leigh. The iconic part of the movie is the shower scene when Norman’s mother murders Janet, however it turns out that Norman is actually dressing up as his mother, who he poisoned many years ago. The film is a cult classic, The Bates Motel and the house used in the film are still standing today and are popular attractions at Universal Studios in Hollywood. There is also a TV show called the Bates Motel based on Norman Bates’ life growing up. There have also been sequels of the original movie that have been released straight to DVD. Star Wars’ legacy has been seen away from the movie theatres since the release of the first film. Chewbacca, a Wookiee warrior in the film is a very popular fancy dress choice at parties. The Stormtroopers cosplay has been a favourite outfits for years, turning up at events all over the world by fans who love Star Wars. Fans also purchase lightsabers, which like the wands in Harry Potter, are the weapons of choice for the main characters and fans can choose the one belonging to their favourite character.
