THE PLOT THUS FAR
Get ready for a hilarious “battle of the sexes” tale in the classic comedy, David E. Talbert’s What Comes Around Goes Around. Celebrated ladies’ man, Tyree Jackson, thinks his only job is to sneak women in and out of his apartment while his live in girlfriend, Desirae Baxter, is at work. Tired of his philandering ways, Desirae and her girlfriends devise a plan that will give Tyree a taste of his own medicine. This all-star cast also stars comedians Tony Rock, Lavell Crawford, and film and television stars BeBe Drake and Tico Wells.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
Tyree Jackson lives to find ways to sneak women in and out of his girlfriend’s place. The girlfriend finds out and then cooks up a plan to give him a taste of his own medicine. In real life, this is the kind of shit that got hot grits dumped on Al Green. Modern melodrama frames it like a crappy sitcom with slight religious underpinnings. In a few words, this isn’t going to be “Downton Abbey”.
The show is a direct-to-video rip of the Tyler Perry mold. I love that magnificent bastard, but he’s creating this subgenre of forced dramatic confrontations within African American cinema. It’s like the ‘hood finally discovered their Alan Alda and we’re having to watch a decade’s worth of Neil Simon rips stuffed into quick DTV dumps. You already know how this one is going to end by looking at the box art.
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp, but it lacks any punch-up. The Dolby track keeps all the action upfront. Still, it’s not something that I would call flat out amazing even on a bedroom television. In the end, I’d recommend skipping it.
