DEATH NOTE HAS ONE LAST CLIP BEFORE ITS NETFLIX DEBUT
Takeshi Obata (Original Illustrator)
It exceeded my expectations. There was high level of quality, sophistication, and attention to every detail. This is what a Hollywood Death Note movie should be. Personally, I was engrossed with the ending! In a good way, it both followed and diverged from the original work so the film can be enjoyed, of course by not only the fans, but also by a much larger and wider audience.
Tsugumi Oba (Original Writer)
Thanks to the beautiful imagery and the thrilling direction by Adam Wingard, the movie is magnificent A-level thriller masterpiece. The characters are all faithful to satisfying their desires. I’ve always wanted to write a Death Note like this as well. Through Netflix it will reach a global audience, so I hope that the people around the world who didn’t know about Death Note will get a chance to discover and enjoy it.
About Death Note
Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
The Netflix original film is directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next) and stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Paul Nakauchi (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Shea Whigham (American Hustle) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as the voice of Ryuk.
Cast: Nat Wolff, Lakeith Stanfield, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, Paul Nakauchi, Shea Whigham, Masi Oka
Directed by: Adam Wingard
Launch Date: August 25th on Netflix and in select theaters in NY and LA

The end of summer doesn’t just mean back-to-school blues; it also means the finale of another great season of @SummerBreak. This season has followed the diverse, young cast as they’ve explored new places, committed to social good, and followed their creative passions. The final episode will air this Sunday, Aug. 20 with the cast enjoying another adventure together and getting ready for a new school year.
Presented by AT&T and Fullscreen Media, @SummerBreak is the longest running YouTube reality series posted in near real-time every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The season 5 cast has been busy this summer traveling to Las Vegas and Mammoth Mountain, supporting Nastasya at her gymnastics competition, and watching Amindi rock her show at The Smell. The cast has also spent time on their own creative projects: Isaiah Wood, an out-and-proud junior, has spent his summer dedicated to being of service to the LGBTQ community by creating workshops for middle-schoolers to talk about coming out and gain resources he didn’t have.
@SummerBreak is part of AT&T Hello Lab, a collection of original entertainment created by, for and with Millennial and Gen Z audiences.

Twitch, Shout! Factory to Host 6-Day STARCADE Marathon August 28
Social video platform Twitch will partner with Shout! Factory to host a marathon of Starcade, the classic game show where contestants competed in arcade video games. The Starcade marathon will feature all available episodes that aired in the original broadcast run, most of which have not been widely aired in over a decade, as well as interstitials and game intros hosted by Geek & Sundry’s Erika Ishii. The marathon begins August 28 at 11 a.m. PT and will air through September 3 on Shout! Factory’s official Twitch channel: www.twitch.tv/shoutfactorytv.
In syndication from 1982 to 1984, Starcade was a groundbreaking game show where contestants competed in classic arcade video games, such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga and Centipede. It aired on WTBS (now TBS) and, as the first of its kind, it set the stage for future video game-themed TV series and served as a platform for introducing new arcade games to consumers. The show was hosted by Mark Richards and Geoff Edwards, created by the partnership of James Caruso and Mavis E. Arthur, and produced by JM PRODUCTION COMPANY.
This classic show follows in the footsteps of Shout! Factory’s Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathon which was used to launch their official Twitch channel.
