WE THE PARENTS REVIEWED
“We The Parents” follows what happened after California passed the Parental Trigger in 2010. Basically, if a state school fails a community’s kids enough, the parents can petition to take it over. While parents of outside states might want to see more of what happened in Compton, this film deals with a lot of recap and generalities. The potential to really bust out a major documentary look at the American education system remains. It’s just that I needed something more than a visual Wiki entry. It’s great information!
I’m not even trying to argue that this isn’t a great jumping off point for further discussion. Hopefully, the director will get the chance to expand upon what was found here. Did the Parental Trigger work outside of Compton? Did some schools fail even after the parents took over? What are the long-term outlooks for a parental takeover? Everything about this is so fascinating!
