WAR & PEACE REVIEWED

“War & Peace” is a BBC adaptation of the classic tale that gets more room to breathe than the classic 1956 adaptation. That being said, it’s costume drama pageantry. Paul Dano, Lily James, Jim Broadbent, Gillian Anderson, Brian Cox and Greta Scacchi dominate throughout the presentation. Still, it feels like the visual equivalent of reading the book over a weekend. While that might scare off some casual viewers, I implore you to expand your tastes. Napoleonic tales of fanciful woe don’t really entertain anymore unless you’re an Austinite. But, guys can enjoy it. I promise you that past the costumes lies a grand tale of men and women wanting to bone during wartime but feeling regret due to their stations. That’s baller as Russian Imperial F—.
