THE PLOT THUS FAR

A&E® serves up a homegrown array of Boston-baked shenanigans and family fun in season two of Wahlburgers as Donnie, Mark, Paul and Bob are joined by mom Alma, additional family members, their restaurant crew and an eccentric array of close friends from Nacho to Johnny Drama. Look into the Wahlberg world, from the stress of running a restaurant to worldwide travels to domestic bonds, strengthened and frayed. Will the New Kids be able to stomach British fare in “An American Wahlberg in London”? Find out what happens when a father-son bonding experience takes a colorful turn in “Something’s Fishy.” Can Donnie live up to the challenge, and his self-proclaimed hype, of running the restaurant for a day?

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Wahlburgers” continues in the fashion that its first season established. The Wahlburger brothers work together to make amazing burgers, hang out with their mom and show off their eccentric friends. For those that aren’t familiar with the show, it’s like “Duck Dynasty” for people that could identify Nomar out of a line-up. Bostonians are still nuts over Nomar, right? I know that the ladies are crazy over Julian Edelman now, but I can’t buy that David Ortiz is the only baseball hero left at Fenway.

The show plays like a slobbish foodie version of Entourage. But, it’s in Boston and about burgers. I guess that qualifies as working class enough to get a show on A&E, while Longmire gets shipped off to the wilds of Netflix. But, I’m just complaining at this point. Even when I like reality television, I still piss all over its offerings. Hot Animal Machine calls that mindset “Andersonian”.

The DVD comes with never before seen footage as the special features. The A/V Quality is on par for most recent standard definition TV releases. The transfer isn’t amazing, but it works. The same goes for the Dolby audio track. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
