Viki, the global TV site powered by fans, and Variety today announced the first annual Global TV Awards, the first awards show of its kind to celebrate the greatest achievements in global TV, film & artistry as recognized by fans from more than 200 countries. The event, hosted by Randall Park, star of ABC’s hit show ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ and Sony Pictures’ ‘The Interview,’ will be held on September 12, 2015 at The Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles and streamed on Viki and partner sites.
Hundreds of the world’s leading talent and influencers from Asia and Hollywood will come together to honor those who have contributed to the evolution of global TV and celebrate with fans from all over the world. The event is expected to draw more than 2,000 fans, sponsors and broadcast and press partners, resulting in billions of impressions. In addition to the live Awards show, the GTVA will include a red carpet event and VIP after-party.
“We’re incredibly excited about the Global TV Awards, an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate with our passionate fans,” said Tammy H. Nam, CEO of Viki. “Variety is the #1 authority in what’s newsworthy and relevant in the entertainment industry, and we’re honored to be partnering with them for this event.”
The launch of the Global TV Awards was announced on stage during TUNE IN: Variety’s TV Summit 2015, the popular annual event spotlighting what’s new and noteworthy in the television industry.
“Viki represents an exciting part of the future of digital entertainment: global content, highly engaged viewers, any device. Basically, no barriers,” said Executive Editor Steven Gaydos, Variety. “We started TUNE IN so that leaders in our industry can get together to discuss, learn and explore the future of entertainment; the Global TV Awards is an extension of this mission, and we’re excited to be a part of its inception.”
With audiences splintered across new and varied traditional and digital programming platforms, the TV Summit will explore how to recognize opportunity to advance the overall business. Networks, advertisers, showrunners, production companies, over-the-top channels and services will explore what it means to develop, market, monetize and distribute successful programming for today’s audiences and beyond.
Created by Viki, Inc. CEO Tammy H. Nam, the 2015 Global TV Awards will be executive produced by Carla Patterson and Karen Waldron; Dave Harding and Jayson Oertel (Viki, Inc.) will serve as Executives in Charge of Production and Don Weiner will direct.
