ONCE UPON A TIME: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON

ONCE UPON A TIME REVIEWED

“Once Upon A Time” enters its fifth season with a healthy bit of world building. We get a little English middle history, as Brave and the tales of Camelot move to the forefront. Honestly, all of the new side trappings were far more entertaining than the events with the main cast. While I was into “Once” for the better part of its first two seasons, it never could stick the landing with the main cast. In that sense, it needed its world building efforts to make Once Upon A Time into a far grander affair. It’s just how interesting is it to keep checking in on Emma and the others every week.

When the allure of a far grander universe exists at every turn, then the audience is naturally pushed to break away from the repeating characters. Still, it’s a visual treat of a show that leaves me wanting to see what they’re going to do next. Just don’t expect me to keep hanging with the program if Disney isn’t adapting another one of their properties to pad out the program’s roster. Maybe there’s something to watching it live, but I never got the serial appeal. I always watch it at the end of the year as one giant fell swoop.
